About

Getting to Know Margo

I'm a mom, a math teacher, and an ocean-lover. I'm running for City Council because I want to build a more prosperous and sustainable city through listening closely, collaborating widely, and pursuing solutions that will protect our future.

Arriving in Pacifica

I moved to Pacifica with my husband and two young children in 2005, after falling in love with its beaches and hillsides on frequent visits from nearby San Bruno. Our kids thrived at Pacifica public schools, and it didn’t take long for us to become enamored with the people here. I love that when I meet a new person, we inevitably have some kind of connection to another person in Pacifica.

My dad was a submariner in the Navy, and so we moved around a lot when I was a kid. We spent a few years in Marina, CA, just before moving to Scotland when I was 11 years old. Little did I know that Scotland would be a great training ground for living in fog, mist and cool weather! We finally stayed put in Northern Virginia when it was time for me to attend high school. Virginia was my home until 1996, when my husband and I moved to San Francisco.

When we first arrived in California 30 years ago, I landed a position teaching math at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, and that’s where I spent my days working with boisterous teenagers until retiring in 2022. In the meantime, we started a family and eventually found our way to Pacifica, where the draw of its natural beauty and small-town vibe was irresistible.

Volunteering in Pacifica

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve always been driven to serve my local community in some fashion. I joined the Pacifica Mothers Club (now the Pacifica Families Club) even before arriving in town, and I held various positions with that wonderful organization, including President.

I’ve been deeply involved with the Pacific Beach Coalition since 2005, serving on the Board, as a standby site captain, and more recently on the Communications Team. I fully believe in PBC’s mission of environmental conservation and education.

When my kids attended Ortega Elementary and then IBL Middle School, I was active in the PTOs and spent many years leading beautification efforts at Ortega.

Since moving to Pacifica, I also have become a climate activist as I witness our planet’s health being compromised by fossil fuel emissions. I trained as a Climate Reality leader in 2021 and have joined a number of climate efforts, including the recent citizen task force that put together the City of Pacifica’s current climate action plan. Currently, I am Vice Chair of the Climate Action and Resilience Committee, which is tasked with implementing the climate action plan.

Why I'm Running

I'm running for Pacifica City Council because, after 23 years in the classroom and 20+ years volunteering in our community, I feel compelled to step up and work directly for all of Pacifica's residents. I intend to leverage my experience as an educator and community leader to guide the City towards a prosperous and sustainable future, helping Pacifica realize its full potential as a place to live, work and play. I am committed to listening to your concerns, finding creative and pragmatic solutions, and keeping Pacifica's long-term future at the forefront of every decision.
