With our coastal location and mild weather, Pacifica is an idyllic place to live and raise families. Few locations in the country can match Pacifica’s views, the laid-back vibe, and most importantly—the wonderful people that live here!
Even so, Pacifica faces an uncertain future as the City grapples with a host of challenging issues. I will work tirelessly to find solutions that will lead our city toward an economically resilient and deeply connected community.
For many years, Pacifica has been operating under a structural deficit. I will work with City staff and the community to bring new revenue sources to the City so that we can become a destination for people to live, work, and play. I will take a pragmatic approach that balances progress with environmental protection.
Over the past two years, the City’s unhoused population has increased by 40% (228 now vs 161 in 2024). This rate of increase is not sustainable for any of Pacifica’s residents—housed or unhoused. I will seek a multifaceted, regional strategy that is guided by compassion and the recognition that the general public deserves access to public spaces.
Linda Mar Beach has the unfortunate distinction of being ranked among the most polluted beaches in the US. This is not new; every year during winter rains, the waters of San Pedro Creek spill into the ocean. There is already a solid cohort of environmental organizations, including the Surfrider Foundation, working on the problem. I will ensure that the City becomes an active partner in finding and implementing a solution to this long-term problem.
It’s true that Pacifica needs more housing—the kind of housing that allows young families and individuals to build a life here. It doesn’t make sense, however, to build housing that will create traffic nightmares or to build housing in ecologically sensitive areas. For example, I will oppose housing projects in the Pedro Point field and on San Pedro Mountain.
In 2025, the City of Pacifica adopted a common sense ordinance that reduces the destabilizing effects that unhosted short-term rentals (STRs) can have on residential neighborhoods. I will fight to ensure that the ordinance, including the primary residence requirement for STR operators, is adopted for the coastal zone of Pacifica. Ultimately, the goal is to have an STR program that provides coastal access to visitors, brings in healthy transient occupancy tax (TOT) revenues for the City AND allows residential communities to thrive.
The operations of City government can sometimes feel like a maze for residents who want to find information about issues that concern them. Solving problems first requires understanding the complexities of the situation. I will use my experience as a teacher to: Investigate the issue, Educate the public about the issue, Envision solutions to the problem and Implement those solutions. We will find answers together.
